Understanding of lifelong learning

The Lifelong Learning (LLL) Working Group is centered around a core principle: education is a continuum that extends far beyond the years of formal schooling. In line with UNESCO’s comprehensive definition, our working group recognises lifelong learning as encompassing all endeavours undertaken to enhance knowledge, skills, and competence within a personal, civic, social, or work-related framework throughout life. This understanding cements our commitment to an educational narrative as diverse and dynamic as the lives it aims to enrich.

The strategic focus of the LLL Working Group

The LLL WG acknowledges that while the concept of lifelong learning spans from the cradle to the grave, our focus sharpens on the post-secondary phase. The decision to concentrate on this stage arises from the comprehensive coverage of basic and secondary education by the other RECI Working Groups: Education in Emergencies and Teacher Training for Quality Education. In doing so, we bridge the gap in our collective approach, ensuring a complete educational continuum.

By concentrating our expertise and resources on tertiary education, vocational training, and adult education, we aim to offer a richer, more detailed narrative and practical support for these vital phases of lifelong learning. These sectors are not only critical in their own right but also serve as gateways to ongoing education and professional development through formal, informal, and non-formal learning opportunities.
