Giving a Future to the Children of Burkina Faso: Alternative Approaches for Accessible and Sustainable Education
In Burkina Faso, education remains a major challenge. Despite strong political will, many children never enter school or drop out before completing their studies. The ongoing security crisis has worsened the situation, leading to the closure of thousands of schools and depriving countless children and adolescents of their fundamental right to education.
In response to this urgent crisis, Enfants du Monde, in partnership with national NGOs, has implemented innovative solutions to restore hope for out-of-school children. In the Hauts-Bassins Region, in western Burkina Faso, and as part of a project co-funded by the European Union and Swiss Cooperation, bilingual accelerated education programs have been introduced. A total of 85 learning centers have been established, serving as bridges to integrate children into the formal education system or guide them toward vocational training. These initiatives support nearly 3,000 children aged 9 to 15, including 50% girls and around 1,500 internally displaced children.
Beyond the numbers, these initiatives are transforming lives. They provide children with a second chance to learn, build a future, and contribute to the development of their communities. Education is a powerful tool against poverty and exclusion. By offering training adapted to their realities, these alternative education models open doors to a more promising future for both the children and their country.
