Virtual Workshop : Education in Emergencies (EiE) Professional Development

Event information

Save the Children in collaboration with the RECI EiE Working Group organized a virtual workshop entitled “Education in Emergencies (EiE) Professional Development” on September 14th, 10:30-12:00.

Background

As education in emergencies (EiE) becomes increasingly recognised and funded as a key components of humanitarian response, the need to support the capacity to implement quality EiE programmes has also grown. Save the Children’s EiE Professional Development Programme (PDP), launched in 2015, has evolved to meet this demand through expansion, new partnerships, new innovative approaches and by adapting to the challenges its faced, including Covid-19. The aim of the EiE PDP is to support EiE and education practitioners working in emergency prone contexts to develop the competencies needed to initiate, design and implement timely and quality education in emergencies (EiE) responses.

Overview of the workshop

The workshop provided:

  • an overview of the EiE PDP, including the key aspects of its evolution to date and future plans;
  • a deep dive into some of its professional development strategies (including basic online course modules, which are open for everybody to access and the more comprehensive EiE CAS Advanced Course (accredited by the University of Geneva))
  • interactive activities (field simulations, scenarios, case studies) to gather a better idea of the content and structure of the courses.

Moderators

  • Arlo Kitchingman, Learning Solutions Specialist (EiE focal point), Save the Children UK;
  • Sian Long, Education in Emergencies Advisor, Save the Children Norway.
